Overview

We have an immediate opening for a skilled Software Architect who lives and breathes enterprise architecture and enjoys building innovative new services that scale to meet the demands of a 24x7, mission-critical environment. The Software Architect at Newgistics will have deep knowledge of enterprise architecture and design, an understanding of new and emerging architectural concepts, and yet be pragmatic enough to build a solid architecture that fosters rapid development of scalable services.

 

This person will work with highly-integrated, cross-discipline agile teams and will be responsible for architecting, designing, and developing a robust enterprise architecture.  This person will also be responsible for fostering software development best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and lead the evolution of Newgistics Software-as-a-Service architecture. Make key technology and design decisions, create innovative new service offerings, and provide technical direction to a set of highly skilled agile teams.
  • Provide the architectural blueprint and lead the design of end-to-end E-Commerce, Fulfillment, and Parcel solutions. This includes the definition of the system architecture, management of scaled agile processes, support for continuous integration/deployment, new technology/framework selection, and generation of detailed user stories.
  • Construct, maintain, and support system software components utilizing advanced software frameworks (i.e. .Net, Java Spring) and open source.
  • Provide strong technical leadership to junior as well as senior level in-house and international software engineers working in a scaled agile environment; work closely with engineers on development teams to deliver a well integrated, high performance, highly scaleable and reliable service. Provide development standards and best practices for the development team.
  • Develop and enforce technical standards
  • Work closely with product management to ensure that the architecture supports key end-user product requirements such as ease of use, extensibility, scalability, and quality
  • Work closely with operations and service support to ensure that the architecture supports the reliability, availability, serviceability, and performance requirements for the service.

Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of systems software engineering: enterprise architecture, multi-tenant architectures, micro services, software containers, transactional processing, database technologies (SQL and NoSQL), security, identity management, and integration patterns.
  • Domain knowledge in E-commerce, fulfillment, transportation services, and integration technologies.
  • Very strong .Net or Java Spring skills including extensive development experience with C#, Java, and/or other high level languages is required.
  • Experience with micro services and Docker containers and container management (Kubernetes).
  • Very strong REST and/or WCF web services. Experience with Swagger or RAML a plus.
  • Understanding of current DevOps CI/CD principals and best practices.
  • Experience with technologies deployed in hybrid cloud (Azure, Google Cloud, AWS) environments.
  • Knowledge of third party applications in primary domain areas.
  • Ability to work exceptionally effectively in a team environment is required.
  • Extensive experience performance tuning, troubleshooting and debugging complex, enterprise-class systems software. Strong debugging skills in a variety of development environments.
  • Good written and excellent verbal communication skills are required.
  • At least eight years experience in software engineering, with significant experience in systems level software
  • At least five years experience involving major architectural responsibility for delivering services to market.
  • MSCS or equivalent knowledge and experience are required.
