  • Overview

    The Automation Engineer is responsible for the development and deployment of operational metrics, reporting infrastructures, quality management tools, innovation and processes to optimize the cost and performance for the AutoStore automation system. This position will also be responsible for engineering components within the facility and Automation such as creating the design and layout parameters for current and future clients, warehouse consolidation efforts, identifying opportunities for efficiency within our current processes, automation initiatives for future state, and velocity based slotting with simulation software.

    Responsibilities

    1. Create updated facility layout diagrams, and also manage and make recommendations on all facility capacity requirements and design/implement solutions to support capacity needs.
    2. Formally implement 5S methodologies across the facility, focusing on business priorities, efficiency improvement initiatives and the scope of work identified through the planning and design phase while working with the operations management team.
    3. Design/implement new dashboards and analytical requirements to ensure productivity, quality and operational KPI’s are tracked and monitored as operational changes and improvements are made, providing analysis to ensure optimum ROI’s are achieved.
    4. Implement and maintain AutoStore automation by correctly configuring products within the systems.
    5. Optimize automation and warehouse storage by analyzing product dimensions and velocity by client.
    6. Interface with Sales and Account Management on pricing solutions to ensure accurate cost and storage layout for new and existing clients.
    7. Oversee new client implementations and deployments go per schedule and that operations teams have necessary platform to achieve required goals and objectives.
    8. Oversee and assist with new client implementations from an operational engineering and project management standpoint. Create and design operational layout, taking into account timelines and overall operational impact to exceed client expectations and ensure a smooth transition within the operation.
    9. Assist with the deployment of lean warehousing initiatives at the facility level, which includes the rollout of progress boards, metrics boards and employee production standards.
    10. Participate and assist with organizing Kaizen Events, which will include coordinating efforts at a facility level.
    11. Lead special projects and all other tasks as assigned.
    12. Travel may be necessary on a 10% basis.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or related field, and a minimum 5 - 10 years industrial engineering experience within the 3PL fulfillment industry. 
    • Strong analytical skills and structured problem solving skills.
    • Expert in MS Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint and AutoCAD. SQL knowledge is a plus.
    • Proficient in optimizing automation systems.
    • Proficient with Warehouse Management Systems.
    • Proficient with Labor Management Systems.
    • Must be a team player with a strong work ethic, as well as excellent people and organizational skills.
